Radon measurement | What is radon? | How to measure? | Detectors

Where do I measure
In ground floor rooms that are used
routinely. Other rooms, on higher floors, or those in which people
spend little time such as corridors, washrooms, toilets, storerooms,
stairwells, do not generally need to be tested. Please note
that the building should be in normal use during the measurement.
How many detectors to do I need
Between two and ten detectors
are usually sufficient for all but the largest premises (see
table regarding the amount ot detectors to order).
Where do I place the detectors
You can place them hanging
from the roof, on a shelf, on a piece of furniture, in a position near an interior wall.
Where do I not place the detectors
In direct sunlight or
draughts, near sources of heat (such as windowsills, radiators,
fireplaces, televisions and other electrical items), inside any object,
in reach of reach of small children and pets. Note that there
is no need to place detectors inside cupboards etc., or in rooms
that cannot be entered.
How do I start the measurement
We deliver the detectors
packed in radon-tight plastic bags, and the measurement (exposure)
starts when the bag is opened - detectors record continuously.
I have ordered a long term measurement, how long time
do I need to measure
The measurement should normally be
conducted over at least two months, preferably three months. It
is possible to measure up to one year.
I have ordered a short term measurement, how long time
do I need to measure
The measurement should normally be
conducted over at least 10 days.
Testing is not recommended during building or other refurbishment
work, or when the building is empty for more than two
weeks or during a change of occupier or usage.

The results will be reported in a confidential report about two weeks after the returned detectors have been received by the laboratory. The results can be emailed to the address of your choice as an attached Excel file. We can also send a written report with a list of the results.
